Innovation Strategies

Sometimes, it’s hard to know where to start with innovation. You might want to make new ideas, while also incubating existing ones, while continuing current processes and routines uninterrupted, and so on. A good thing to do in this time is to see what the giants in all fields are doing because, after all, there’s a reason they’re giants. This article is part three of a four-part series where we will delve into this topic. The first two parts were focused on the biggest companies, and these next two are focused on smaller and lesser-known companies. So, without further ado, here are 4 of the most innovative leaders and smaller-scale companies of 2020 so far, and what you and your organization can learn from them:

1. Dunzo

From Dunzo, we learn to be proactive, not reactive.

Dunzo may not be as big as Swiggy or Zomato are in India, but they are growing fast. This pandemic could’ve knocked them down at a crucial time, perhaps never to get back up again. But they seized the moment and instead made creative posts and ads that showed their commitment to safety and therefore proactively stemmed the flow of any problems of people ordering less because of fears of the virus.

2. Brigade Enterprises

From Brigade Enterprises, a real estate company based in Bengaluru, India, we learn to always go digital, no matter what. They have activated online booking for many of their properties and have already sold 15 properties through it. By next year, they aim to generate 8-10% of their sales through this mode.

Sometimes we may feel resistant to go digital or may feel like some things are just done better on good old-fashioned pen-and-paper. But we must resist this instinct because digital everything is the future and we need to look to the future if we want to innovate. As Steve Jobs said, we must skate not to where the hockey puck is, but to where it’s going to be.

3. Aashirvaad Atta

From Aashirvaad Atta, we learn to join hands and collaborate. Aashirvaad Atta has partnered with Domino’s pizza to include a combo pack of their atta and spices through the Domino’s app.

Collaboration is a  must. We are always stronger together and collaboration always proves that we are more than the sum of our parts.

4. Metro Wholesale

From Metro Wholesale, we learn that sometimes we must focus on the bare essentials.

Metro Wholesale stores have been currently operational to assist in providing essential goods such as groceries, foods, and dairy products. They have stopped with any other products at the moment.

We must also learn to take a step back and focus on what consumers need – we must strip away everything unnecessary to minimize confusion and scattering of our resources.

These are four of the most important lessons we’ve learned so far this year from the smaller companies. What did you think? Do you have any more? And what do you think the rest of 2020 holds for us and what we might learn from it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned and watch this space for the final part which will showcase 4 more companies!
